Project groups are device designs pioneered by our own veteran members.
Every project group is lead by 1-2 project group leaders, who work with their team to finish monthly goals. Project groups can use their device concept for design competitions, EWH resources for prototype fabrication, and the club member-base to ask the class for conceptual help and or suggestions.

Micro-Centrifuge
Centrifuges are critical to gravimetric analysis, in which components of a solution are separated by mass and weight. Centrifuges spin mixtures at extraordinarily high speeds to separate the components of the mixture. In medical settings, centrifuges are used to separate the components of liquid biologics, including blood and serum. Centrifuges can help in isolating solid matters for further medical testing. A microcentrifuge is simply a smaller variant of a centrifuge, and it is this that EWH is currently designing a version of.
As centrifuges and microcentrifuges can cost hundreds of dollars, EWH is designing an affordable and compact microcentrifuge that can be easily assembled in the developing-world clinics and put to effective use. Our centrifuge has the capability to be either plug-powered or battery powered (using very simple, easily-found batteries). The microcentrifuge design team currently has the entire electrical apparatus of the centrifuge set up and is seeking funding to construct the casing and additional prototypes.

ECG/EKG Device
Development of the ECG revolutionized cardiac medicine. Sensitive detection of everyday heart processes enables a trained eye to detect abnormalities and collect symptoms to safely lead to disease diagnosis. Heart disease places on the top of mortality lists for both developing and developed countries, gathering funding from numerous charity organizations and medical research groups for early detection devices. While many developed countries can detect heart problems from an early stage, simple access to physicians in certain areas of the world is questionable at best.
In collaboration with Kolkata Medical College in India, the ECG project team is in the early conceptual stages of designing a portable ECG device for use in emergency care facilities in Calcutta. Proper diagnosis of heart problems in their early stages will allow for powerful preventative measures and give time for medication and/or medical help to arrive.
